Ageism in the IT industry

by JackH on March 28, 2007

I’m 38 years old and already I’m on the IT scrap heap, at least according to Mark Zuckerberg as quoted on Mitch Kapor vs Mark Zuckerberg.

That’s a nice thought.

With all of the casual ageism going around I find it hard to believe that I will make it to retirement working in IT.

If the IT industry as a whole isn’t very careful I think that it will find it increasingly tough to recruit good people. I’ve never heard of solicitors, general practitioners or engineers in other disciplines being written off at 35.
