Great piece of advice from Seth Godin about financing a new business. We went 15 months without any money coming in to myself and my co-founder Denis. It was tough, really tough. Hawking my CDs down at the 2nd hand record store wasn’t much fun. I’m sure the store clerk thought I was a druggie. But, it does give you a real focus. You can’t think of anything but your company and how to get money in. It absolutely dominates everything. Which is a good thing.
Now, our company has money in the bank and we can invest.
I’ve worked in a VC funded company and I hated it. People behave very oddly, spend money in ways they never would in a regular company.
We spend money like it is the most precious thing ever. Any money we spend must produce a real tangible result.
