.Mac email Ajax woes

by JackH on April 21, 2007

I’ve got a .Mac account, mainly for historical reasons. I used to have a Mac so the .Mac account is kinda a leftover from that.

One of the things that really winds me up about technology companies is following buzzwords without any regard to customers.

Apple have certainly got a big dose of Ajax with their .Mac mail service. Problem is that Ajax doesn’t add anything to the service I as a paying customer receive. In fact, it makes it far worse.

I’ve not signed into my .Mac account for a week or so. I’ve got around 164 mails to delete. But, because the Ajax code has a huge bug in it I can’t multiply select emails to delete them enmasse. So, I’ve got to go through all 164 emails deleting them one by one.

The .Mac mail service worked perfectly well pre-Ajax and by Ajaxing it up they have added precisely nothing.

That winds me up. Tech companies do this kind of thing far too much! Still, at least all of the .Mac engineers have Ajax on their resumes/CV so that’s all right then :(
