XBox 360 is just another PC to Microsoft

by JackH on November 14, 2007

I got home plugged my XBox 360 into my TV and inserted my newly purchased Half Life 2 game. I was a little surprised to see Half Life 2 then wander off and install a console software update.

It’s weird how companies have a certain kind of corporate DNA built into them when they grow. Whatever they do subsequently they just can’t shake off their world view. In Microsoft’s case that is a PC mindset. Everything is a PC to Microsoft even a console.

I was expecting a post install reboot too. ;)

All current-gen Consoles (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii) have firmware updates, and each of them requires a reboot after installing a firmware update.

Also, shame on you for playing Orange Box on the 360. Even my laptop can run the Source-Engine games, and HL2 and consorts are just so much more fun with a proper input system.

I’ve got one word for you: RSI!

I can’t play games using a mouse because I use a mouse for 8-10 hours a day at work. Another 2-3 hours at home and I get really bad RSI.

Using a console controller doesn’t cause a problem. Must use different tendons or something.

I thought about getting a console style controller for the PC but I doubted that many games would support it properly.

HL2 is one hell of a game though. I do appreciate it is hardly news to a PC gamer though…given that it came out a year or two ago on the PC.
